When I added my Picture awhile back, I too was uneffected, my smile, bright and warm, fight for a cause that was important but not personal. As of Feb. 2, 2008 around 7:30 pm, my stepfather Roy L. Fuller, died of lung cancer. He has been fighting it for two years, with the hope of pulling through. His last days were horrible, he couldn't move and was unable speak or remember anyone. I hope no one EVER has to go through what my family is going through now. I never wish this one anyone, but he sad fact is hundreds of family everyday go through this. So now I smile a little different. It's a broken smile but it's one that's grateful to have known such an amazing person and is alive to remember him properly. Please keep smiling through the hurt because that's the way they would like to see you.... not just happy and alive, but living.

Luckily, my family seems to be unaffected by cancer, but many of my friends lost relatives and loved ones to this disease. So if there's even the tiniest thing I can do to support the search for a cure, I'm more than happy to. Besides, there's nothing easier than smiling.

I’ve posted myself, when I was bold and going through chemo this past summer, due to breast cancer. Next week I will have my 2nd operation, but I’m still the same happy person I’ve always been and I’ve never seen myself die because of this disease, or even being sick. I’ve never been afraid of dying, but scared for my children that they will grow up without a mother. My father died when I was 4, so I know what that means. These two little ones keep me centered and focused on the everyday life which is very important, I think. One thing I’m very proud of is that my friends here on Facebook have voted me the happiest person they know, but I realize that it means more to me because of my cancer. Does it make any sense? Love this idea Matt!

I am 24 years old, and this summer, around June, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It's not in my family and it's very rare for women under 40 to suffer from this type of cancer. I had my breast removed along with lymphnodes and I had to go through an intense 6 months of agressive chemo. I lost my long hair, my eyebrows, my lashes but never EVER did I stop smiling. I have been free of chemotherapy for two months now and I am undergoing the breast reconstruction surgeries. It has been a hard and painful road...but I learned to love life and smile through it all. At the end of the day I can't let the cancer win over the only life I know is my own. Facing chemotherapy and an advanced cancer did not only have a tremendous influence on my physical state, but also my emotional and mental. Being a girl is hard enough, living in a superficial world is hard as well, but having to go through all those visual changes during these times was and is devestating...however it's programs and contests like these that make a difference and make me smile and appreciate the world I live in. Thank you everyone!

I am a survivor of brain cancer...though I didn't fight it for long. The years 2001-2003 I can't remember much. I was told I had brain cancer, my mom said it was bad, i wouldn't remmber her or anyone, and the cancer kept growing. I had long hair and they cut it short, so I could get used to having none, because they were going to put me on kemotherapy. Then the beginning of 2003, they did one last cat scan before kemo because it had stopped growing so the military delayed the treatment. The cancer had dissappeared. my first memory was laying down on a bed in the MRI machine, my mom was crying when i came out, she was looking at the results and said it wasn't there anymore. Though I didn't fight it for long, and I didn't loose my hair. I lost more....I don't know what I did, I didn't remember 9/11 I didn't even know what it was. I don't remember anything from those years, and I know there is no way to get back what I lost. I was told I had cancer, I was told I had fish, and that I smiled though I didn't know who anyone was...I don't remember, and it down right sucks. Every year now, I give 12 inches of my hair to Locks of Love, because it's something i have that i don't need much of, and I almost recived from them. I just wish I could remember...

My cousin gayle struggled through 3 hard years of breast cancer which eventually spread to her lungs, ovaries, lymph nodes, spinal cord, and brain. she passed on August 25th, 2006 and left behind a husband, 2 young children, and friends and family who miss her very much, but i'm positive she's smiling down from Heaven right now...and she's no longer in pain. So, my picture of me and my dad is for her, and all others who suffer out there. You're not alone.

My father passed away on Jan. 4, 1992, at the young age of 52 years. He was diagnosed with aggressive terminal Lung Cancer. Without aggressive chemotherapy had had up to 1 year. Without chemo, he would only have 2 weeks. What a fabulous choice hey. Anyway, knowing how much he wanted to live his life, he began aggressive chemotherapy. Although it caused him to lose all his hair and become very sick after each treatment, it was prolonging his life. I allowed my father to understand how precious life is and really appreciate those in his life. It gave me the most meaningful Christmas I will ever know. Just hanging out with my dad, laughing and chatting about past Christmas' together and showing him that the best gift you can ever give anyone is the gift of your time. Although it has been 16 years since my dad's life ended, I have never felt closer to my dad than I do now. I hear his voice in my mind each day, supporting me and guiding me. Just as he did while he was alive.

Jusy befor that i lot one of my very god friends who lost the battle after two yaers. She was such an inspiring person no matter what she always looked at the brighter things in life, right up to the last minute. i always regret not been abe to say bye to her. If your'e looking down i just want to say i wish you were here i miss those girle nights and long walks to Camden :). I think this is a great way to make people more aware and a fantastic way to raise money for those who are suffering and to show support to both the patient and their families. _ -_ . ' L' . '<v>'

I lost my father to cancer December 4th, 2007. He battled 3.5 years. He was diagnosed with kidney cancer, but despite the tremendous treatment and care he received at Massachusetts General Hospital during his battle, he did pass. His cancer was terminal from the beginning and we originally were told we would have 3 months with him. The 3 months turned into 3, blessed years. In the 3 years, my dad was hooked up to different machines, lived on a daily diet of pills, had chemo, radiation, and numerous surgeries. Yet, he kept living his life. He went to work every day, except for the times spent recuperating in a hospital after operations. I took him to Red Sox games and Bruins games. This last summer, I took him to see all the summer flicks out in the movies. He was a great inspiration to anyone and all who knew him. Cancer is a horrible and nasty disease. There is nothing good about it. Good people get sick from it and have to fight the biggest personal battle of their lives with it. My dad fought until the end. He lived until the end. My prayers go out to all those living with Cancer and also to those grieving from cancer.

I've known so many people who either had cancer, have cancer, or affected by those with cancer. We need to do all we can to ensure cancer becomes just another illness with an easy cure or even a vaccination. The HPV vaccine is a huge step forward but we need to continue! I hope all who are suffering make it through <3
